As I walked down the beach recently, I picked up whatever trash had washed up on the shore and thought about the damage plastic is doing to our environment. I always find plastic, Styrofoam, delated balloons and ribbon littering the beach and other public places.
Do you know how many things in your life are made of plastic nowadays? Homes are wrapped in plastic siding. The new type of wooden decking, carpet, floor paneling, and paint now use plastic. Car manufacturers have replaced a lot of metal with plastic because it’s not as heavy. Almost every child’s toy is plastic. Many unnatural beauty products contain copolymer, not to mention the polypropylene micro-particles found in many scrubs. Even the clothing you wear is made of nylon, rayon, and polyester. When we wash these items, the micro-particles are rinse out of our washing machines through our sewer system and into our rivers, bays, and oceans, and end up in krill and fish. This means we’re even eatingplastic! 100% cotton is the solution, but doesn’t have the stretch and wrinkle free advantages. My solution is for washing machines to add a filter like the dryer has that need to be cleaned often. But they will not do it if we don’t demand it.
By supporting local beekeepers and using organic materials, Edye’s Naturals encourages people to lead more environmentally friendly lifestyles, but YOU can make an even bigger difference! Though it helps, being environmentally conscious goes beyond recycling in your homes. If each person took a minute each day to gather the trash they find and properly dispose of it, perhaps we could move toward a more sustainable world.
If you want to be more socially conscious about plastic here are four ways that you can help:
Don’t buy it
If an item is unnecessary don’t buy it. Also when you do shop remember your own bag.
Stop Chewing Gum
Gum was originally made from a natural rubber material from tree sap, but when scientists created synthetic rubber, polyethylene and polyvinyl acetate began to replace the natural rubber in most gum. So today you are not just chewing on plastic, but you may also be chewing on toxic plastic — polyvinyl acetate is manufactured using vinyl acetate, a chemical shown to cause tumors in lab rats.
Reuse glass containers
Instead of throwing away or recycling glass jars that your spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, salsa etc. come in, reuse the jars to store food or take them with you when you’re buying bulk foods.
Add More Glass Storage Containers to Your Kitchen
Instead of plastic containers to store you food consider adding more glassware to your cabinets. As long as you avoid glass with lead it is much safer to use glass containers leftovers or to use them to pack your lunch for work. Of course do not pack the kiddies lunch in glassware as that is another safety matter.
We hope this information encourages you to live a more sustainable lifestyle.

Reap medicinal benefits from one of nature's remedies! Lemongrass, which is one of the primary ingredients in Edye’s Natural’s NEW Deep Nourishing Serum, has a somewhat mystical medical history that heals a variety of maladies. Certified doctor of natural medicine, chiropractor and clinical nutritionist, Dr. Josh Axe, explains on his website draxe.com that lemongrass is an herb that produces oil with a lemony smell and earthy undertones, which is stimulating, balancing, relaxing and soothing.
Often used in many cosmetic products and soaps, lemongrass essential oil is a natural deodorizer known to have antifungal, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is even used as an insect repellant! According to an article in Better Nutrition magazine (June 2001) in ayurvedic medicine it is used to treat coughs and nasal congestion. It also cites an interesting study by Ben Gurion University in Israel, which indicated that in vitro, citral, the active ingredient in lemongrass, caused the death of cancer cells while leaving normal cells untouched. That is an eyebrow raising finding!
Lemongrass may also prevent the growth of some bacteria and yeast, containing antioxidant elements can be used for a variety of maladies. Some of the benefits of lemongrass essential oil include:
As many of you know, beeswax is a one of the many organic ingredients in Edye’s Naturals products. In fact, we source some of ours from local beekeepers. However most people purchase honey from a supermarket where it seems to be in abundance with sometimes 10 or more varieties to choose from. That unfortunately is merely an illusion. Our honey supply is diminishing because honey bees are dying. Here is the not so sweet story of why honey bees are in danger and how you can help.
Bees are responsible for pollinating one in three bites of food we eat and they're in trouble. Since the mid-1990s, they've been dying off in droves around the world. Colonies have been mysteriously collapsing with adult bees disappearing, seemingly abandoning their hives. This is widely known as Colony Collapse Disorder, or CCD — is likely caused by a variety of interacting factors, including pathogens, loss of habitat and increased exposure to systemic and other pesticides.
If honey bees disappear we will lose much of our world food supply. We should help save honey bees because while grains do not require honey bees to flourish, virtually all of our non-grain foods are dependent on honey bee pollination to a large degree. Here is a fact we all need to remember: worldwide there are 90 different food plants that depend almost exclusively on the honey bee. In the U.S. honey bees are considered critical pollinators of many fruits, nuts and vegetables. Your own diet will be changed dramatically if we lose our honey bees.

I looked high and low for the right product for to relieve the symptoms of my Rosacea. There wasn’t an organic lotion for it that didn’t contain alcohol or other harsh chemicals that irritate skin. I found that many of the very inexpensive moisturizers list water as the first ingredient. We all know oil and water don’t mix, so alcohol is typically added along with other emulsifiers to make water and oil blend in cosmetic products, some of them toxic. Why should we put poisonous ingredients on our skin when a lot of it absorbs into the skin and makes its way to the blood stream?
I had always researched different ingredients that were very nutrient and antioxidant rich. Just like eating organic foods is better than ingesting supplements, using organic nutrient rich plant oils are much more beneficial for your skin than factory made oils. For example, I don’t use Vitamin E or Vitamin C oils, as they are created in factories and I can get the proper nutrients from plant oils instead. I started combining these nutrient rich ingredients to make a product that would calm the redness of my rosacea and created Edye’s Face and Body Butter. At first, my cheeks grew redder for a few minutes before the redness quickly went away as my skin soothed. Today, my cheeks continue to heal and are rarely red. Even after a recent beach trip, my cheeks were red that night, but it had reduced the next morning . Nothing will make me give up the beach and sit in the house all day hiding from the sun!
Organic is Always Better!
Since we don’t use emulsifiers and chemicals for smoothness, Edye’s Naturals products are much more complex and difficult to make. They are made by hand since the formula needs to cure after pouring and before the lid is placed on. We don’t always achieve a super smooth texture because of the lack of emulsifiers, but the product melts smooth as soon as it touches the warmth of your skin. We have made a recent change to our Face and Body formula, replacing the mango butter with grape seed oil, as both are rich in Vitamin C, but grape seed oil will produce a better-guaranteed smoothness a benefit we are sure you will appreciate. Overall, helping you achieve healthier skin void harsh chemicals is our goal.
My personal experience is just one of many, so please read more testimonials from our loyal customers on our website to see how healthy organic plant oils truly make the difference.
Ingesting a dose of friendly bacteria is supposed to help you feel better inside and out. Researchers are regularly providing new evidence supporting the role of good bacteria in maintaining our well-being. Boosting our digestive health and immunity, is known to ward off colds and allergies, and keeping bowels healthy are just a few of the noted benefits.
Probiotic literally means “for life,” which is apropos, given we are made up of bacteria. Yet in a germ phobic society (think hand sanitizers etc.), it’s no wonder we don’t have the collection of bacteria living in our bodies that we once had millions of years ago when early man consumed mostly non-fermented food.
Tips before taking a probiotic
“The right types of bacteria promote healthy metabolism and diminish inflammation, which can harm our health,” says Australian Endocrinologist Katherine Samaras, Professor and clinical fellow at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney. “The wrong types cause systemic inflammation, which damages our arteries, promotes diabetes and fatty liver disease, and is considered to contribute to accelerated aging, including cognitive [brain function] decline.”
For most, including yogurt with live cultures, kefir, lassi or a probiotic drink in their diet is probably enough. Yogurt should be whole milk with little sugar, sugar feeds the bad bacteria.
If you plan to introduce good bacteria to your gut through a probiotic supplement, it’s important to feed them properly. This means consuming prebiotics – think high-fiber foods, including legumes, such as beans, lentils and peas, whole grains, asparagus, banana, leeks, garlic, nuts, vegetables and fruit. Consider avoiding the consumption of highly processed carbohydrates and sugary or fast foods that cause “bad bacteria” overgrowth.
“Our health starts and ends with what we choose to put in our mouths,” is Professor Samaras’ blunt advice, “and no supplement can neutralize the junk we may choose to eat.”
Remember, before changing your diet in any way – always seek the advice of a medical practitioner.

Using Edye’s Naturals is a great way to nourish your skin from the outside. But it’s no secret that the foods you consume have an effect on your skin. While some foods can leave your skin looking the worse for wear, others have the potential to pave the path to a clearer complexion.
"The skin is a reflection of what's going on inside us," said dermatologist Nicholas Perricone, M.D., author of The Wrinkle Cure in Health Magazine. "That's why the foods we eat and the supplements we take can have a huge influence on the skin's appearance."
Juicing is a popular method that allows you to consume eating whole fruits and vegetables in away to get the best nutrients out of them. Getting more nutrients through the consumption of more fruits and veggies can help you cleanse the digestive system and promote healthy skin. Recent research has highlighted the effect of fruit and vegetables in daily diets as the increased vitamin content helps with hair growth, acne, headaches, insomnia, and more. The antioxidants in raw, organic, and unpeeled ingredients boost your health and improve hair, skin, and nails.
Here are two recipes for skin glorifying fresh juice you can make with a juicer (see the link below about juicers).
Apples sweeten the green ingredients in this delicious juice, which has also has a refreshing ginger tang.
2 medium apples
2 medium carrots
1in cube ginger, unpeeled
4 small asparagus spears
Small handful parsley
Small handful freshly cut wheatgrass or 1tsp of powdered greens (wheatgrass, chlorella, or spirulina)
Juice all ingredients together and stir in chosen powdered greens (if applicable) just before serving. Makes one large glass.
SPOT-FREE SKIN JUICE (for blemish flareups)
2 green apples
1/2 cup fresh beetroot
4 medium carrots
1/2 cup cabbage
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Method In a juicing machine, juice the pear, apples, beetroot, carrots and cabbage. Add the apple cider vinegar before serving. Remember to make only enough to drink all at once. Also it's important to use a juicer to make these recipes not a blender like some of the TV brands such as Ninja or Magic Bullet.
Juicing is a great way to treat your body from the inside out, but even better when used along side natural, organic external products like Edye’s Naturals.

Mien Shiang, or Chinese face mapping, is based on the idea everything in your body is interconnected and when something goes wrong, your face will show it. Certain parts of your face correspond with internal organs and when unusual changes occur on your face, they point to other health issues you may need to address. While many doctors use facial mapping as part of their diagnostic process, you too can monitor what’s going on by learning what’s normal for your face and paying attention when discoloration, swelling, and other imbalances occur.
Your face is a roadmap to your health. Through the observational science of Chinese face reading, you can take your health into your own hands and notice signs of bad health even before your doctor. Some areas to pay attention to include:
Nose – Your nose is connected to your heart and an especially red nose could indicate heart issues.
Upper Lip – The upper lip is correlated to your reproductive organs and can reflect fertility issues, hormonal fluctuations, or even indicate pregnancy.
Cheeks – If you notice changes in the hollowing of your cheeks, it could be a sign that your breathing is impacted as they represent what is going on with your lungs.
Earlobes – If your earlobe is creased, it could indicate variable or high blood pressure.
Eyelids – Your eyelids are connected with your liver and gallbladder, so any fatty deposits can potentially signify high cholesterol. Take the best care of your skin with organic products like Edye’s Naturals and monitor any changes to prevent diseases before they happen.

We exercise the rest of our bodies, so why not our faces? Some beauty gurus recommend a daily round of facial flexing exercises similar to workouts for other body parts. These exercises keep your skin and muscles toned, preventing sagging and wrinkles, especially when done in connection with proper skin care. While facial muscles are small, they weave around our skulls and can be isolated and flexed just like your biceps and hamstrings.
The belief of the past was that you should use those muscles as little as possible to prevent signs of aging. Today, facial flexing enthusiasts insist that these exercises are the way to go. These exercises are even used to restore mobility and tone for people recovering from strokes or diseases affecting facial nerves.
While you may not be able to bulk up your facial muscles the same way you do your arms and legs, these exercises can even take the place of cosmetic surgery for some patients. Facial flexing can be recommended as an alternative for young patients, or others who find surgery isn’t quite right for them. Try some of these exercises yourself and see if you can feel the difference!
Upper and Lower Eyelid Lift
Touch thumbs and index fingers together, forming binoculars over your eyes. Lift index fingers gently while lowering thumbs to widen the circle. Scrunch lower eyelids by squinting, while keeping fingers against your skin. Hold for ten seconds and do three reps twice a day.
Create a V shape with index finger and thumb, placing at the upper corners of the mouth. In the same position, place the other hand on top of the first hand. Raise eyes and force a smile against lightly pressed fingers.
And remember to use Edye’s Naturals products to keep your skin healthy and supple. Proper skin care is a great supplement to facial exercises.

There are so many products boasting being the best for your skin, however they often contain ingredients that can do more harm than good. So, what should you avoid in order for your skin to stay looking healthy? Here is Edye’s helpful short list of skincare ingredients to avoid:
While it may have uses for sterilizing wounds, alcohol dissolves bacteria and skin cells, leading to dryness and damage, along with a pile up of dead skin cells that may be hard to exfoliate away. When purchasing a toner or facial astringent, ensure it doesn’t contain isopropyl alcohol to avoid weakening your skin’s natural abilities to protect you against free radicals.
Though it can be used to prevent infections, hydrogen peroxide is found in many toxic dyes and has a corrosive nature that can lead to burns and blisters on the skin. Additionally, it is a common allergen that may result in inflammation.
Vegetable glycerin has been known to cause irritation in respiratory systems and gastrointestinal tracts, also irritating the mucous membranes in your lungs, which can cause adverse effects on your skin. Forms of irritation can include swelling, breathing problems, itching, and dizziness. Avoid products that contain vegetable glycerin, glycol alcohol, or glyceritol to keep looking and feeling fresh.
Water Based Solutions
Water-based products are cheap and easy to manufacture (which is why you often find it as a first ingredient of major brands), but only aid in drying out your skin. One of the big problems with water is that you need emulsifiers to make water and oil blend, which usually comes in the form of chemicals that are often found in lotions to allow blending to occur. Edye's Naturals Face & Body Butter products don’t need emulsifiers because they do not contain water as a base ingredient.
And one last piece of helpful advice, while hot showers feel great, they strip the natural oils away from your skin, breaking the barrier that contains your skin’s moisture. Try using lukewarm water rather than hot, especially if your skin is already prone to dryness and itchiness. Avoid potentially toxic and/or skin damaging ingredients by using only healthy, organic products like Edye’s Naturals products.
